Judith Hackitt - Engineering for Safety and Sustainable Operation:

An Engineer's Role Beyond the Design Stage

17th March 2015

The Strathclyde University Faculty of Engineering Annual Lecture 2015 was delivered by Judith Hackitt CBE, Chair, Health and Safety Executive.
The lecture focused on what engineers need to do to ensure the safe operation of plants particularly after they have been commissioned.
Many plants are operating beyond their design lives and this is a good thing. It shows that the engineering decisions taken when first designing the plants have been good ones but we must review the all aspects of the plant and take learnings from incidents elsewhere in industry and ensure our plants are suitable and if not, what changes are required.
